Agnes Louise Stroz

Agnes Louise (Spenger) Stroz, age 87, of Juno Beach, FL and Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 at Hospice of Palm Beach County after a long battle with C.O.P.D.

Born in Johnstown, PA on July 27, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Hilda (Kist) Spenger.  Agnes was a longtime resident of Wilmington Manor in New Castle, DE, where she raised her family and completed her BSN degree from Wilmington College.  She resumed her nursing career in the New Castle school district, with the Head Start program and, later, as the school nurse at Castle Hills Elementary School.

Agnes was married to the love of her life, Frank J. Stroz, for 58 years.  After retirement, they traveled the U.S., and enjoyed their second home in Rehoboth Beach with their family.  They were faithful parishioners at Our Lady of Fatima Church, which was across the street from their longtime home. Agnes was known for her love of baking and sharing many peach pies made from the trees in her yard.

In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank; sisters, Donna Stecker of Fairfax, VA and Mary Spenger of Johnstown, PA; and granddaughter, Kathryn Gardner.  She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Michael Stroz (Stephany Siwinski) of Highland Park, IL, Cynthia Gardner (John Garrett) of Jupiter, FL, Dr. Margaret Stroz (Dr. Paul Eberts) of West Chester, PA and Thomas Stroz (Stephanie) of Castle Rock, CO.  Agnes, adoringly called Mema, will also forever be remember by her grandchildren, Victoria and Kimberly Stroz, Kelly and Caroline Gardner, Drew, Hannah, Teddy and Maggie Eberts, and Abby, Brad, Ryan and Daniel Stroz.  She was one of five sisters and is survived by Sr. Terrence Spenger OSF of Mt. Alvernia, PA and Charlene Sheffler of North Springfield, VA.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 6 pm until 8 pm, Friday, March 16, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.  A second visitation will be held from 9 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Agnes at 11 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE, 19808.
