Albert J. Nickerson, age 72, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 9, 1941, Al was a son of the late George A. Nickerson and Anna Sklodowski Nickerson. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps Reserve from November of 1959 until July of 1967. Al possessed a strong work ethic from a young age when he began working for Nickerson Brothers Rug Cleaning Company. He was a Teamster for 40 years until his retirement in 2007.

In his leisure time, Al enjoyed spending time in his yard near his fish pond and tending to his garden. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Albert Nicky Nickerson, Jr. Al is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice Siemienski-Nickerson; daughters, Debbie Houtchens, Angie Palmer and Cindi Basner; step daughters, Patty Weicker and Ann Marie Smith; sister, Kathy Sommerfeldt; brother, Br. David J. Nickerson, BGS; aunt, Michaline Dombrowski; 5 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 3 step grandsons; and his loving four-legged grandchild, Sassy.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 6 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday evening, March 26, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 pm on Thursday afternoon, March 27, 2014, at the St. Hedwig R.C. Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.

  • Always loved the times I spent with my cousin at Reunions and visiting him at his home. Since I live in Arkansas I am not able to attend the funeral but would like to give my condolences to his immediate family! Much love to him and yours. May God be with you in this time of pain!
