Alfred A. “Al” Antonelli, Sr.

 

Alfred A. Al Antonelli, Sr., age 85, of Newark, Delaware, passed away at his residence on Monday, October 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 22, 1928 in Sheppton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Theodore Antonelli and Isabella (Karash) Antonelli.

Al was a dedicated husband, father and proud Navy veteran.  He was known by many throughout Delaware as the Father of Accessibility.  Although Al was confined to a wheelchair from an early age, he worked tirelessly to provide assistance to numerous groups and individuals with disabilities.  In appreciation for his dedication to help others, he was the proud recipient of many honors during the past 60 years.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Wohlforth) Antonelli.

He is survived by two children, Linda M. Marshall and Alfred A. Antonelli, Jr.; one brother; three sisters; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Committal services with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Monday morning, October 27, 2014 in the chapel at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Memorial contributions may be made in Al’s memory to Lt.  J. Allison O’Daniel VFW Post 475, 100 Veterans Drive, Newark, DE 19711-4515.

TED ANTONELLI AL’S BROTHER WHO IS 94 IS LIVING W/ HIS SON TED IN TOWNSEND. WE HAVE ENJOYED LISTENING TO AL’S BROTHER TED RELIVING STORIES FROM SHEPPTON PA TO DELAWARE. GOD BLESS THIS WONDERFUL FAMILY/PLEASURE TO BE WORKING/KNOWING THEM. THANKING MEN/WOMEN LIKE THEM WHO HAVE HELPED MAKE AMERICA SAFE W/ THEIR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.
