Alice R. Van Dyke
Mrs. Alice R. Van Dyke, age 90, of Dover, DE, formerly of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2011.
Alice was born in Glen Mills, PA, on March 15, 1920, daughter of the late Anthony Papoo Trillio and Annie Johnson. Alice was raised in Port Deposit, MD. A loving homemaker and mother throughout her life, she also assisted her husband, Hassel, in their family business, Van Dyke Diesel Service.
Active in her community, Alice was a member of the Moose Lodge in New Castle and the Mamie A. Warren Senior Center in Smyrna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hassel A. Van Dyke, son-in-law, John D. Sweetman III, grandchildren, Timothy S. Sweetman and Heather R. Sweetman, stepfather, Ari Taylor, two brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce V. Taylor (Robert) of New Castle, Carol J. Sweetman of Townsend, Laureen R. Stigile of Clayton, Betty A. Sweetman (John) of Townsend, Barbara R. Malatesta (Greg) of Dover, and Hope A. Moore (William) of Leipsic; niece, Gladys Binette of La Plata, MD; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 15, 2011, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
