Mrs. Anna M. Hentkowski, age 95, of Wilmington, DE, died on Sunday, August 1, 2010.


Born in Wilmington on November 4, 1914, Mrs. Hentkowski was the daughter of the late Bronislaw and Stanislawa (Golanska) Konkowski. After attending Bancroft and Wilmington High Schools, she began her career in ladies retail apparel, working first for several shops in downtown Wilmington and then for the former Strawbridge & Clothier at the Merchandise Mart. She would later accept a position in the office of the New Castle County Board of Assessment, where she retired.


Involved in her community from her youth, Mrs. Hentkowski served as a spotter for the Civil Air Patrol during the 1950s. She was a member of the Active Young Republicans for several years and served as the president of the 12th Ward Republican Womens Club. She had also been a member of the Hilltop Neighborhood Association and a Den Mother with the Pulaski Legion Troop of Boy Scouts of America.


She is survived by her sons, John W. Hentkowski (Micki) of Fair Hill, MD, and William S. Hentkowski, Jr. (Judith) of New Castle, DE; daughter, Joan H. Harris of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, John W. Hentkowski, Jr., Stephen E. Hentkowski, Barbara AMH Roberts, Elizabeth Hentkowski, and J. Michael Harris; and great grandchildren, Bryan and Alexis Hentkowski, Brody, Ian, and Abigail Roberts, Mickella Harris, and Samantha Bartell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Blanche Buckley (Brzozowski).


The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staffs of St. Francis Hospital and Compassionate Care Hospice.


A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 5, 2010, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in memory of Mrs. Hentkowski be made to a favorite charity or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
