Anna Mae “Ann” Arnold
Anna Mae Ann Arnold, age 93, of Newark, DE, passed away at home on April 25, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 15, 1921 in Akron, OH, Ann was the daughter of the late Lillian and John Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Howard; son, Jack; brother, Bill Smith; and sister, Betty Jean Nims.
Ann will be remembered for her exuberance, imagination and joy in life evidenced by her numerous design and building projects, love of entertaining and hosting large parties, traveling around the world, planning large family vacations and activities, excellent cooking abilities, and accomplishments playing the organ and piano.
Ann was also a generous and caring person. She and her husband fostered more than 30 children in the 1950’s and they also graciously provided for their family and many in need. She had a large circle of friends who were very dear to her. Ann particularly cherished time spent with her bridge club and with Elaine Williams, her friend of over 60 years. She was a matriarch of five generations whom she loved beyond measure.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Ron); five grandchildren, Debi, Jayne (Tim), Jack (Nicki), Carrie (David), and David (Mandy); eleven great grandchildren, Matthew, Shannon, Michael, Daniel, Amanda, Ashley, Madison, Nicholas, Chase, Natalie, and Andrew; and two great-great grandchildren, Joey and Harper.
Her family is grateful to Mary, Priscilla, and Joycelyn for their years of loving care and attention.
Funeral service and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002, in memory of her son Jack.

Leslie, Carrie and the Arnold family, we were so saddened to hear of the loss of your loved one. our mother/Grandmother Pat Grinnage-Harmon, was very good friends with Ms Arnold for many years. She was such a loving and caring lady. We THANK YOU for sharing your loved one with us. She always had a special place in our hearts. Treasure and remember all your memories you had with her because that can never be taken away. Just remember that Heaven now has another Angel. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Karl and I would like to express our condolences to you, Leslie, and your family on the loss of your mother. We fondly remember working with Anne and Howard on their decorating projects; they were delightful, caring people as reflected in their generosity and community spirit. Anne was a wonderful role model and I think of her every time I play the piano; most recently, her composition “A Happy Song Just For You”.

I want to extend my condolences to the entire Arnold family on the loss of Anne. I was privileged to meet Anne and Howard after Jack’s death. I had met Jack when he was attending the ALS Center at Pennsyvania Hospital in Philadelphia where I was volunteering.
Anne and Howard graciously met with me at their house and we maintained contact for several years.
Considering Anne and Howard’s broad interests, it is so nice to see the ALS Association set out to receive gifts in lieu of flowers. Likewise I will be making a gift with that designation.
