Antonio V. Severino

Mr. Antonio V. Severino (Tony), age 90, formerly of Penn Acres in New Castle, DE, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Born on Sao Miguel, Azores, on March 12, 1920, Mr. Severino was the son of the late Antonio and Corina (de Viveiros) Severino. In 1938, he enlisted in the Rhode Island National Guard, which became part of the US Army in 1941. As a staff sergeant with Company F of the 330th Engineers Regiment during World War II, he assisted in clearing the vanguard for construction of the famed Burma Road. In civilian life, Mr. Severino was a radio and television technician by profession. Locally, he worked for WILM and Temple University until his retirement. Mr. Severino was a devout Catholic throughout his life and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. He enjoyed bowling and oil painting and was passionate about researching his familys genealogy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stasia Rybka Severino, in 2008, and by siblings, Herbert Sefrino, Ferdinand Severino, Emily Benevides, Geraldine Silveira, and Frances Cordeiro. He is survived by his children, Tony Severino and wife, Karen, of Newark, DE; Thomas Severino and wife, Mary, of Newark, DE; and Sandra Dugan and husband, Joe, of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Jennifer Barrilleaux and husband, Rob, Stephanie Stewart and husband, Mike, Tony Severino, Jr., Joseph Dugan, and Samantha Severino Fleet and husband, Ryan; and great grandchildren, Callie Barrilleaux, Emery Barrilleaux, Carlene Stewart, and Taylor Fleet. Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
