Barbara A. Ricker - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Barbara A. Ricker

July 2, 1941 - September 6, 2015

Barbara A. Ricker, of Newark, DE, was called back to Heaven at the age of 74, on Sunday, September 6, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

A native Delawarean, Barbara was born in Wilmington in 1941 and was a daughter of the late Milton and Thelma Prettyman. She attended Wilmington High School and later worked as a paraprofessional for the Austic program at Newark High school for several years which she enjoyed very much.

Barbara was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She was a very loving and caring wife, mom, mom mom and great mom-mom. Wherever she was there was always laughter and her sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew her. Barbara was happiest in the company of her loved ones and her home was the family gathering place for get-togethers, birthdays or just hanging out. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth A. Ken Ricker; children, Shelly Perry (Ed), Tom Brittingham, Jr., Kim Brittingham and Robin Scheid; sister, Elinor Prettyman; brother, Cord Prettyman (Liz); 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Services and interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.

3 Condolences for Barbara A. Ricker

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Barb was a great lady and will always be part of my life. Love you all. Debbie

  • I know my words can’t begin to ease your loss, but please know my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you!

Barb was such a wonderful person! I remember being neighbors when I was a child and the friendship she shared with my mother. I remember the joy when she and Ken got married! Barb and Ken have been at every major event in my family’s lives, including my wedding. Over this past year, Barb would get her treatment and then visit my mom in the nearby nursing home. Even though she was battling her own illness and knew my mom would probably not remember (she has Alzheimers), Barb also knew how much my mom would appreciate a friendly visit. Barb would call me after her visits, and we would chat. The behavior of Alzheimer’s patients can get scary over time, and people tend to avoid visiting. Barb’s visits meant a lot to me and my mom.

  • So sorry for your loss
