Barbara Ann Black, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Barbara was born in Camden, NJ on July 18, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Mary E. (Putnam) Black. She was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where she served as a cook for 9 years, including a tour of duty in Germany. In addition to her military service, Barbara attended Bob Jones University.

A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of Pleasantville Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed completing puzzles, reading, and was an avid gardener.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. Barbara is survived by her sister, Charlotte Cook Robinson of Woodstown, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday morning, September 6, 2017, at the Pleasantville Baptist Church,162 Christiana Road, New Castle, DE 19720, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Pleasantville Baptist Church, at the address listed above.

  • Praise the Lord for Barbara’s strong testimony and faith! Always a blessing to see her in church. I wish I had gotten to know her better. I will miss her sweet smile and always positive spirit!
