Barbara Henderson Stewart

Born: 12/13/1926
Died: 3/2/2010

On Tuesdsay morning, March 2, 2010, the Lord brought Barbara, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, home after having courageously battled a brief, but severe illness. Barbara was the daughter of the late of Howard and Ethel Noble Henderson. Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, she moved to Delaware after having finished school. As her children were growing, Barbara involved herself in many activities: gardening, oil painting, sculpting, learning to play the piano and violin, and other community interests. She began volunteering at the Newark branch of Planned Parenthood and eventually acquired the status of business manager for the Wilmington Planned Parenthood facility, where she retired in 1988. Always one to keep busy, Barbara soon began to work part time in the accounting department of the University of Delaware bookstore, where she spent 12 years. An avid lover of the outdoors, Barbara discovered golf, a game which she loved and at which she excelled. She shared her passion for golf with her husband, Richard, and they spent many years at the Newark Country Club, Three Little Bakers and DelCastle golf courses, and on numerous golfing trips with many fond memories of good times and good friends. Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard; daughter, Penni Frassico and significant other, Duane Wallace; son, Peter Stewart and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Leigh and Daniel Frassico, Allison Bender, Elizabeth and Jesse Stewart; son-in-law, Joseph Frassico; sisters, Sally Heermans, Sue Hilbert, and Shirley Myers; brother, Howard Henderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Henderson. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. To sign guest book, visit spicermullikin.com SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY 302-328-2213
