Barbara Jean Downes, age 54, of Rock Hall, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2015.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 11, 1960, Barbara was a daughter of the late William L. Myers and Doris Ann Merchant Myers. Raised in Worton, MD, she was a member of Kent County High School’s graduating class of 1978. Barbara was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her beloved family.
Maternal and nurturing, she treasured being at home where she loved to cook, crochet and tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. Barbara adored animals of all kinds. She was an avid NASCAR and Ravens fan. Above all else, Barbara was happiest in the company of her family, whom she relished spending time with.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Michael Downes and a sister, Carol A. Merchant Batchelor. Barbara is survived by her sons, James “JR” Bowers, Jr. (Craig Andolina) and Brian Bowers; brother, Charles “Chuck” Myers; sisters, Karen L. Coleman and Marie Usilton; grand dog, Martini Bowers; nieces, Samantha Kamm and Kimberly Coleman; and nephew, Spencer Coleman.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3 pm on Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2015 at the fellowship hall of the St. James United Methodist Church, 10965 St. James-Newtown Rd., Worton, MD 21678, where a reception will follow. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
