Barbara N. Wisowaty

Born February 2, 1949

Barbara Newcomb Wisowaty, age 68, passed away at home on Friday, June 30, 2017, surrounded by family, following a battle with cancer.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Delaware City, DE. She was a member of the graduating class of 1967 from Mount Aviat Academy in Childs, MD, and then attended Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bear. Barbara enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a private woman, generous beyond words, and was happiest any time her family was gathered together at her home.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Regina (Curlett) Newcomb and father, William Wallace Newcomb; brother, Wallace Newcomb; and infant sons, Lawrence and Joseph Wisowaty. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Walter R. Wisowaty; daughters, Karen Christian, Susan Lebowitz, Jennifer Wisowaty, and Christine Elliston; grandchildren, Sam, Morgan, and Alex; and brothers, Lawrence Newcomb and Michael Newcomb.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday morning, July 6, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Rd., Bear, DE. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s New Catholic Cemetery, Cox Neck Rd., New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Barbara’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Thinking of you all today and wishing we could be there for Mass today, to celebrate Mrs. Wisowaty’s life with all of you, your family, and friends. I have many wonderful memories of Mrs. Wisowaty coming to McCullough Elementary when the girls were little. She was a very thoughtful parent and generous with her time and goodies! We all know that she is an angel in heaven watching over all of you and us now!
