Barbara P. Banning, age 84, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014.

Born on August 28, 1929, in Morgantown, WV, Barbara was the daughter of the late Charles Thurmond Penrod and Glenna E. Kirby Penrod. She made her career with the DuPont Company, where she worked as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 2001. Barbara was a longtime member of the New Castle United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Monte C. Banning, Jr., who passed away in 2006 and her 8 siblings. Barbara is survived by her children, Cynthia Hunt of Middletown, DE, Pamela Banning of Middletown, DE, Sandra Leckie and husband Alan of New Castle, DE, and Monte C. Banning, III of Bear, DE; 7 grandchildren, Lindsay Brown, Matthew Hunt, Heather, Melissa, Sara, and Alan Leckie, and Jennifer Banning; and 1 great grandchild, Alexis Hunt.

A committal service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Barbara’s name be sent to the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720.
