Mr. Bayard Thomas, age 95, of Newark, DE, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010.
Born in Independence, VA, on September 23, 1915, Mr. Thomas was the son of the late Clara (Green) and Charles Thomas. He made his career in the construction industry, retiring in 1972 from the Magnus Construction Company.
An avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman throughout his life, Mr. Thomas greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Cecil County Coon Hunters Club, and the White Clay Creek Fly Fishermans Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Chambers Thomas, in 1995, and a son, Ronald E. Thomas, in 2007. He is survived by his children, Elwanda L. Thomas Porter (David), Margaret M. Thomas Horkey (Zeke), Howard M. Thomas (Jean), Ralph D. Thomas (Gini), and Abigail K. Thomas Dempsey (Bill); sister, Ollie Mae Thomas Nickels; sister-in-law, Lucy Chambers; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, November 15th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Longwood Cemetery, 945 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA.
