Mrs. Betty Mae Brooks Muehlen, age 84, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at her residence.
Born in Flint, MI, on March 22, 1927, Mrs. Muehlen was the daughter of the late Herbert Brooks and Ermel Ruth Austin Brooks. In earlier years, she served in the Civil Air Patrol and was an officer in other military organizations including the Fleet Reserve and the American Legion. She made her career as a professional nurse, working for the Ontario (CA) Community Hospital for many years.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, she was currently a member of the Smyrna Ward in Delaware. She was also widely admired as a talented painter and artist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Brady M. Muehlen, a grandson, Mark Muehlen, a brother, Herbert Brooks, Jr., and a sister, Norma Slocum. She is survived by her daughter and sons, Adele Estep (James Jr.) of Middletown, DE, Kim Muehlen (Pam) of Chino, CA, and Eric Muehlen (Betsy) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; brothers, Dale Brooks of Ontario, CA, and Lester Brooks (Doris) of Paris, CA; sisters, Harriett Bishop (Bernie) of Chesaning, MI, and Joyce Lytle of Buena Vista, CO; sister-in-law, Laura Brooks of Asso, MI; grandchildren, Fernando Estep (Heather), Brian Muehlen (Randi), Jeffrey Muehlen, Erica Muehlen, Jason Harr (Beth), Laura Bentele, and Joshua Harr; great grandchildren, James Estep and Madalyn Estep; and good friend, Olga Moreno.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jurupa 1st Ward, 8660 44th Street, Riverside, CA. Interment will be held privately at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA.
