Brett Andrew Ellis, age 22, of Middletown, DE, died suddenly on Friday, August 19, 2011.


A native Delawarean, Brett was born in Newark on August 10, 1989, and attended Middletown High School. He was a gifted athlete from childhood, excelling in baseball, weight lifting, and basketball. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #14.


Most of all, Brett delighted in spending time with his many good friends. Whether simply playing video games together or listening to music, he was at his happiest when surrounded by the dear friends who knew him best. Bretts true passions were honest and loyal friendship and a desire to live each day to the fullest. He will be long remembered for his inspirational way of living and will be deeply missed by the many, many people who loved him.


He is survived by his beloved parents, William E. Bill Ellis, Jr. and Sharon K. Byrd Ellis; brother and best friend, Ryan M. Ellis; maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Byrd; paternal grandmother, Mary A. Ellis; aunts and uncles, Georgena and Joseph Ellsworth, Robert and Joan Ellis, Brian Ellis, Michael Ellis, and June and Jack Spence; cousins, Jay and Aaron Ellsworth, Robert and Joshua Ellis, Joey, Jamie, and Adam Spence, Tiffany, Brandon, Shannon, and Michael Ellis; and a host of close friends. Through his parents relationships, additional loved ones who have embraced him as family are Tony Pastorella, Geena Pastorella, Diana Ritchie, Matthew Langshaw, Andrew Langshaw, and Katelyn Langshaw. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Emmett W. Byrd, his paternal grandfather, William E. Ellis, Sr., and uncle, Benjamin Ellis.


The many who loved Brett knew how quickly he could become a cherished member of their extended families. The family wishes to thank those who gladly welcomed Brett into their homes and lives.


Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, August 26, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the funeral home, where a second visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Old Drawyers Cemetery in Odessa.
