Bryan Christopher Steele
“Chris”

November 4, 1959 – November 8, 2017

Bryan Christopher Steele, age 58, of Newark, DE, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.

Chris was born in Florence, AL on November 4, 1959, and was the son of the late Robert G. Steele and Patricia Paty Steele. He was a painter by trade, but in his earlier years, built bomb struts and landing gear for Sikorsky helicopters.

A former resident of New York, Chris was an avid New York Giants and New York Rangers fan. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and was in a pool league. Chris was a giving individual who chose to be an organ donor, and his corneas have provided someone with the precious gift of sight.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Amy Adair Steele. Chris is survived by his mother, Patricia P. Steele of Newark; daughters, Jennifer Steele McDonie (Tommy) of Culloden, WV and Cathrin Steele Ball (Michael) of Barboursville, WV; sister, Susan Steele Storrer of Newark; nephew, Douglas M. Ray; and grandchildren, Isaac, Evan, Carson, Tyler, Dylan, and Audrey.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love, support, and prayers for Chris during his illness and since his death. He had a great summer with friends, who took him to play golf and to the beach between chemo and radiation treatments. The family also wishes to thank his cancer team at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, who were all so kind and supportive.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday morning, November 18, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 W Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899 or to the First Presbyterian Church of Newark at the address listed above.

Chris… You fought so hard and hardly complained. God had better plans for such a kind warm soul. You had many friends who I know over the years enjoyed keeping in touch with you. I saw you last at a reunion meeting and you looked good. We are sad this horrible disease took you earlier than anyone wanted. You are at peace.

    Chris…

We have known each other for many many years. You became part of the Green gang sharing years and years of UD football games with my family. Your friendship with my son Doug was truly genuine and heartfelt and your sorrow on his death was deep. I am sure you two have connected again and will shine down on us all. RIP my friend..

To Susan, Pat and the Steele Family, I extend my sincerest sympathy and offer my prayers. Please know that Chris touched many. May God’s love and healing light shine down on you during this time of need and remembrance. Praying memories of his life soon replace your grief of his loss

Chris I am so going to miss you. We only knew eachother for a little over a year but I beleive you were put into my life as well as me in yours for a reason. You helped me through some of the hardest times in my life. Just your encouragement , positivity and mere bluntness helped in ways you probably did not even know. I loved hearing your stories about your family and what you used to do for a living before painting. You loved your family and friends and were such a giving person. You gave me confidence when I didn’t have any and strength when I needed it the most. Pretty much you gave me a good swift kick in the ass and said cmon you can do better than that ! So I thank you and I will miss you so much and our chats . I had promised to take you to the country for a few days and get away and cook you dinner like I did on the painting job and I am so sorry we never got to do that. So close yet so far away. I can look at the color on my walls that you did for me and remember how much fun it was to have you around when I just needed a friend , also fellow Scorpio to hang with. You not only colored my walls you colored my life with brightness when it was so grey. I will miss you my friend I hope you are pain free and in peace. You deserve it.
