9 Condolences for Carl R. Schwalbauch

  • Carl (and my son Tim joining Troop 2) were my re-entry into Scouting after over thirty years. Carl quickly realized my interest in helping out with the troop, especially in handling camping trips. This led to several other “jobs” with the troop and twelve years later I am still helping boys to become men through scouting. One of the main things that I noticed on the camping trips was how much the scouts enjoyed spending time at the end of the day around the campfire with Mr S. And I think he enjoyed those moments even more. He was always looking out after “his boys” and helped in many ways to make sure they were successful, often behind the scenes in way they didn’t know.

Thanks to bringing me back to Boy Scouting Carl and we will remember you at our campfires.

  • Cousin Carl had a great sense of humor and was always a quick wit. He could always make me laugh. I so enjoyed his laughing in return. His giggle will always remain in my memories. All my love and sympathy to all his family.

  • Jean and Derek,

So sorry to hear of Carl’s passing. Its been a very long time since I’ve seen or talked with all of you and for that I am sorry. Carl was such a great man, husband and father and surely will be missed. I have many fond memories of the times at your house and eating many a great meal with you all. He always had a good story about his travels and was a pleasure to dine at your house. I remember babysitting Derek, so you could take that wonderful vacation to Greece.
My sympathy goes out to both of you and I will always remember the great person Carl was and how he touched so many peoples lives.
    Fondly,
    Mitzi

  • Sorry to hear of Carl.s passing. I’ll always remember him coming to Grandma’s house and us getting together.

  • sorry to hear of Carl’s passing.. So Sorry we (Melody Brown and Vickie Moore) could not be at the viewing. We worked with Carl for 5 years at the Elkton Wal-Mart when it was the small store. Wonderful man. Always helping people and fun to b around. Always seemed to brighten your day when he was around. You are in our thought and prayers Please give us a call if there is anything we may do for you and your family

  • I still find myself remembering moments from my scouting life. All the great ones revolved around Mr. S. Allowing us to build ridiculous campfires (within reason). Pushing us to try new things. Keeping our otherwise diverse collection of misfits working in unison to achieve greater goals. Keeping us in line when we needed it. That entire arc in my life was defined by troop 2. And troop 2 was really defined by Mr. S.

  • Cousin Carl left a wonderful mark on my heart! When I think of Carl I remember the times when we were kids he would take us to the Drive-In. I couldnt wait to go, I liked being with him he was always so easy to get along with, he took the pressure off. With what we were going through at the time being with him was an escape and I think that was his intention! HE LIKED US! and I LIKED HIM!
My deepest sympathy goes to all of you! Love You!

  • To the family of Carl,

It’s been years since we were around Carl, Janet and Bertie We saw Ralph at MHS’s Class of ’60 50th reunion back in 2010. Ralph is married to my classmate, Phyllis (Savin). The Schwalbauch family lived next door to my family, the Moore’s in St. Georges around 1954 to1956. I was so excited because I had four kids in my age group that I could play with and hang out with. Carl, Janet, Bertie and I rode our bicycles “downtown” St. Georges to Othoson’s store several times a week where we would get candy, ice cream, or a comic book. Sometimes we would have to pick up something for our mom’s from Crompton’s Grocery Store. Carl, Ralph and Janet went to high school at MHS while Bertie and I would walk to school at Commodore MacDonough as we were still in 7th and 8th grades. They lived next door for a couple of years then moved to outside of Elkton. We still saw each other for some time after as we all were dating and all went to teen dances at the Elkton Armory. Then we got married and our lives took different paths. Carl was always so nice to us girls. I particularly remember Carl’s mom making fudge spoon pops for us kids. These are memories that one never forgets. Our sympathy to all of you.

  • Jean and Derek,

I was so sad to return home from vacation and read that Carl had passed away.

You know I really enjoyed working with him all those years at Walmart. We always had each other laughing, trying to get through our sometimes “trying” Walmart nights!

You guys brightened my night when you both came in to shop at the Supercenter, always stopping by to chat with me. I loved hunting you down for each other when you got separated from each other in those riding carts!

I will miss Carl and hope you and Derek still come to shop and drop by to say hi.

    God Bless you,
    Phyllis Bixler
