Born April 3, 1928

Caroline (DiFabio) Pobedinsky, age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Born in Bayonne, NJ on April 3, 1928, Carol was a daughter of the late Ernesto and Sophie (Petralia) DiFabio. She was a graduate of Bayonne High School. After meeting in an ice cream parlor, Carol married George J. Pobedinsky in 1949, and remained a shining example of what marriage should be for the next 48 years. The couple enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country, living in California for a few years before making their permanent home in Delaware in 1963. Together, they raised two children “ George and Denise, while Carol maintained a career.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Carol was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Parish and maintained a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and also the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Additionally, she was an active member of the church’s Altar Society and the Leisure Group. Carol gave of her time and talents as a volunteer with the Newark Senior Center, where she was also a member. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and special aunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; brother, Orient DiFabio; and sister, Gloria Mazza. As the matriarch of her family, Carol is survived by her son, George J. Pobedinsky, Jr., formerly of Newark, DE, and now of California; daughter, Denise P. Hansen, formerly of Newark, and now of Alaska and son-in-law, Jim Hansen, of Alaska; great great nephew, Baby Nicholas; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and close friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, November 9, 2017, at the Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to Holy Family Parish, 15 Gender Rd., Newark, DE 19713 or to the Newark Senior Center 200 White Chapel Dr., Newark, DE 19713.

I was saddened to hear of her passing for you both list someone so deeply loved, special. I know how that feels but I have also come to understand how much better our loved ones are in the kingdom of God….we are the ones who suffer.
