Carolyn A. Skinner

Born June 30, 1984

Carolyn A. Skinner, age 32, of Wilmington, DE, lost her battle with addiction unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

She was born on Saturday, June 30, 1984 at Christiana Hospital. Carolyn was a 2002 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and attended Delaware Technical Community College where she was pursuing a nursing degree.

Carolyn was an artist and published poet. In her younger years, she was an aspiring swimmer at Team Delaware and Windybush Swim Clubs. She liked fashion, pop culture, make-up, and nail polish. She also enjoyed music, especially Ani DiFranco, and concerts. Carolyn loved being in nature. You could often find her walking Rowan, her beloved dog, at Alapocas Run State Park.

Carolyn was a very caring and loving person, concerned with everyone’s well being and interests. She would give great advice and was quick with a helping hand. Our family will be forever grateful for her assistance in caring for our parents in their final months.

She was preceded in death by her father, George W. Bill Skinner and mother, Nancy Lee Skinner of Wilmington, DE. She is survived by her siblings, Courtney Skinner and husband Aaron of Phoenixville, PA, William Skinner and wife Tara of Wilmington, and Andrew Skinner of Herndon, VA; grandparents, Alden L. West, Sr. and Norma Rice West of West Long Branch, NJ; auntie, Carolyn W. Moro and uncle, JR of Oceanport, NJ; uncle, Alden L. West, Jr. and wife Trudy of Laurel Hills, CA; nephews, Liam George Skinner and Owen Connor Skinner; niece, Elle West Bieber; aunt, Florence Blohm of Port Saint Lucia, FL; cousins, Allee Moro, Garrett Moro, Brian Denny, and Dana Denny; and so many friends and extended family.

The family would like to thank family and friends for all the support and prayers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, January 13, 2017 at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19809.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Carolyn be sent to atTAck Addiction, P.O. Box 36, Bear, DE 19701 or by visiting www.attackaddiction.com.

  • I am so sorry to hear this sad news today. Carolyn had a special place in my heart as one of Marla’s closest childhood friends. I loved her spirit, her smile and her compassion for others. I am at a loss as how to process the horror that addiction has leveled on so many of our friends. I hope she is at peace and that you, Courtney, Billy and Andrew, cherish all your wonderful memories of her as time eases the pain of her loss.

  • Dear Skinner Family ~ I was devastated by the news of Carolyn’s loss. Far too many young people lose their battles with addiction. I was fortunate to have taught all of you in Sunday School and blessed to know your Dad and Mom, both also lost too young. I enjoyed seeing the memory video. You are all in my heart and prayers. With love ~ Sandy McKay [Covenant]
