CATHY L. MIKOLAJCZYK

Cathy L. Mikolajczyk, age 55, of New Castle, DE passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

Born on February 27, 1959 in Vicenza, Italy, she was the daughter of Joan E. (Zilch) Brungess and the late Howard G. Brungess.

Cathy attended Goldey Beacom, Del State and Del Tech, where she proudly earned her associates degree in nursing.  For many years she was a dedicated employee for the State of Delaware, where she enjoyed her work in the human resources/payroll department for the Secretary of States Office in Dover.

With a passion for helping others, Cathy was a member of the Volunteer Hose Company in Middletown, DE where she will always be remembered as their first female volunteer firefighter.

As an avid reader, Cathy always enjoyed relaxing with a good book.  She and her beloved husband, Jim, loved to travel, especially to Disney World.  There they created many fond and wonderful memories.

Cathy’s friends and family will most recall her love and fondness for animals, especially her cats and dogs.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, step-mom, grand-mom, sister, aunt and dear friend to many.

Cathy leaves a legacy of fond memories to her loving husband of 33 years, James E. Mikolajczyk, Sr. and his sons, Edward D. Mikolajczyk  (Patricia) and James E. Mikolajczyk, Jr. (Elizabeth); her mother, Joan E. Brungess; sister, Cynthia J. Swanson (Leon); grandson, Rory Cade Mikolajczyk; nephews, Jason L. and Adam J. Swanson; great-niece, Hannah E. Swanson; great-nephew, Logan J. Swanson and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday morning, August 29, 2014 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may visit with Cathy’s family Thursday evening, August 28, 2014 from 6:00 “ 8:00 pm and again on Friday morning from 9:30 “ 10:00 am at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.

In memory of Cathy’s love and passion for animals, memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
