Charles E. Sculley

Charles E. Sculley, age 91, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016.

Born in Claymont, DE on October 5, 1924, Mr. Sculley was the son of the late Charles E. and Grace D. (Plummer) Sculley. He graduated in 1942 from Ridley Park High School in Ridley Park, PA. He would then work for one year for American Viscose Corporation in Marcus Hook, PA before entering the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Sculley was honorably discharged in 1946 after achieving the rank of Sergeant. In 1947, he accepted a position in the Tabulating Department with the DuPont Company. Mr. Sculley retired from the company’s Information System Department in 1985 after 37 ½ years of dedicated service.

In his leisure time, he was an amateur radio operator whose station call sign was AE3H and he also held an Extra Class License. Mr. Sculley was a member and past president of the Delaware Amateur Radio Club and was also a member of the Amateur and Advanced Radio Club of North Wilmington. He was an avid stamp collector and collected both U.S. and Scandinavian stamps. He was a member and past president of the Scandinavian Collectors Club, Chapter 13 of Delaware. Mr. Sculley was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy B. Sculley and a son, Keith E. Sculley. Mr. Sculley is survived by his son, Geoffrey C. Sculley (Lonie); grandchildren, Megan and Brenton Sculley; and great granddaughter, Aubree Rose Sculley.

A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday evening, January 7, 2016 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 pm until 6 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Sculley’s memory may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church at the address listed above.
