Charles F. Balling, Jr.
Mr. Charles F. Balling, Jr., age 70, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Balling was born in Wilmington on October 24, 1940, son of the late Florence and Charles F. Balling, Sr. He proudly served his country for four years in the US Air Force. In civilian life, he made his career as a professional truck driver with Globe Union (later Johnson Controls) in Middletown. Following his retirement, he accepted a position with Superfresh in New Castle.
A talented handyman throughout his life, Mr. Balling was greatly admired by family and friends for his ability to fix anything. He also enjoyed working on all types of cars and crafting model airplanes. An avid football fan, he delighted in cheering each season for his favorite team, the New York Jets.
A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Balling is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Margaret M. Christopher Balling; daughter, Charlotte J. Deputy (Roy) of Clayton; stepsons, Harry B. Harper of New Castle and Norman C. Harper of Newark; and grandchildren, Jaynie C. Deputy, Amanda P. Deputy, and Carl L. Harper.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to 10 am on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A committal service will follow at 11 am in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. The family requests that those attending the visitation and service wear casual dress.
