Charles Joseph “Joe” Heckler, Jr., age 75, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

Born in Wilmington, DE on November 17, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles Joseph and Harriet (Lux) Heckler. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He then earned his associate degree in criminal justice from Delaware Technical Community College. Joe made his career as a truck driver with Teamsters Local #326.

A life member for 41 years with Minquadale Fire Company, he served as past president, vice president and secretary. Serving in the Delaware State Fire Police, Joe was honored with the title of Fire Police Emeritus. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Oneschuck. He is survived by his children, Christopher Heckler (Lori) and Dawn L. Worth, both of Newark; companion, Patti Heckler; sister, Sandra Bowden (Barry) of New Castle; and grandchildren, Robert Worth, Jr. and Savannah Worth.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 12 noon on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony St, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the Minquadale Fire Company, 129 E Hazeldell Ave, New Castle, DE 19720.
