Charles L. Hearne

Charles L. Hearne, known affectionately as Chuck, age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Monday, November 24, 2014.
Chuck was born in Delmar, DE on June 29, 1930, and was the son of the late Charles Hearne and Irma Bailey Green. He bravely served his country as a Ranger in the US Army during the Korean War and was wounded during the battle on Pork Chop Hill. Chuck made his career as a police officer and proudly served the citizens of Newark for 20 years before retiring at the rank of Sergeant. Upon retiring, he was instrumental in opening and operating White Clay Stables in Newark and would also accept a position with J.R. Gettier Associates in Elsmere where he worked as a private detective.
Chuck had a keen interest in training and selling horses, especially hunters and jumpers. In his leisure time, he was a passionate water fowler. Above all else, Chuck was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Elaine Kennedy Hearne; sons, C. Michael Hearne and wife Lynnette of Sellersville, PA and Lee M. Hearne and wife Stephanie of Newark; and sister, Jean Whaley of Laurel.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday morning, December 1, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:30 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.

My thoughts and prayers are with Elaine and all of Chuck’s family at this time. We have lost a true “One of a Kind” man. Thinking about Chuck always brings a smile to my face. Chuck lived life, a true old school horseman who was happiest when he was with his horses and his family. His eyes positively sparkled telling stories about his adventures and you could see his rugged exterior visibly soften when he spoke proudly of his sons. He loved Elaine beyond words. Chuck shared his cowboy wisdom with me and we always joked that he should write a book about true horsemanship because he had forgotten more than most people would ever know. I’m not sure those secrets were ever documented but one thing is certain….Chuck Hearn will never be forgotten. Godspeed my friend. I know the riding is fantastic in Heaven.
