Charles Stutzman

November 5, 1939 - June 14, 2017

Charles Stutzman, age 77, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Born in Wilmington, DE on November 5, 1939, he was a son of the late Edgar and Louise (Barcus) Stutzman. Charles proudly served his country as a SeaBee in the US Navy where he served 3 tours in Vietnam. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his career as an over the road truck driver and later worked as a heavy equipment operator.

Charles loved camping and traveling with his family and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was a longtime member of New Castle United Methodist Church, Family Campers & RVers, Joseph B. Stahl Post #30, and a life member of the VFW. Active in his community, he previously served as scout leader and coached with the New Castle Little League.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar Stutzman and sister, Barbara Aikey. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janet (Ebright) Stutzman; children, Dan Stutzman (Starla), Sharon Horrocks, Sean Williams, and Scott Williams, Sr.; brother, Doug Stutzman; sister, Wanda Jose; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Charles will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his life.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday evening, June 20, 2017 and again from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where a funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm.  Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware St., New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Sorry for your lost Charles Was My half brother who I really enjoyed being around when I was a young girl he lived with us for a brief time when he came out the service . I know I loved him being there with his family then they just had Danny. We would take walks and go see grand mom Stutzman. I wish I had a chance to know him in his later years but time sure does get away from us. Again sorry for your lost .The Charles I new was a great guy.

  • What a blessing to be able to spend time with our Uncle Charles , Aunt Janet , Uncle Doug & Aunt Marcine Stutzman a few weeks ago. We enjoyed the memories that we shared together. Seeing Uncle Charles light up when he saw us coming in through the door. We went out and had good times staying out till midnight just like teenagers going past bedtime! Enjoyed laughter and fun times with Uncle and family. He will be missed greatly down here, but we will see him again. Aunt Janet our prayers are with you and our whole family.
