Charles A. Tielleman, Sr., age 85, of Wilmington, DE, died on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

Charles was born in Wilmington, DE on September 16, 1931, and was the son of the late Henry Ernest and May Elizabeth (Pugh) Tielleman. He attended Bancroft, Brown Vocational High School, and later Goldey Beacom College. A proud veteran, Charles served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He made his career as a crane operator for Delmarva Power, retiring after many years of dedicated employment.

He was a longtime member of the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed traveling of all kinds, especially the 26 world cruises he took with his wife, Shirley, and also spent many happy hours walking in state and national parks. An exceptional handyman, he was happy to build or fix anything his family needed him to and without a second thought, was always willing to offer his assistance to anyone in need. Charles was a devoted and loving husband, father, and brother.

Charles is survived by his wife, Shirley Tielleman; daughter, Christine Allison; son, Charles A. Tielleman, Jr.; and sisters, Louise Cheeseman and Debbie Duke.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 am on Friday morning, September 15, 2017, at the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where a gathering for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am until 11:30 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church at the address listed above or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 308,Wilmington, DE 19899.

    I am truly broken to hear of Uncle Charles’ passing. He was the type of man you liked the instant you met him, and once you met him, you couldn’t help but love him.
