Mr. Chester Peace, age 89, of Dover, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at his home.
Born in Goins, KY, on August 2, 1921, Mr. Peace was the son of the late Charlie Peace and Verda Mahan Peace. He made his career as an assemblyman with the Chrysler Corporation, retiring as an inspector after many years of service.
In his retirement, Mr. Peace greatly enjoyed visits to Delaware Park and Dover Downs to try his luck with the slot machines and watch horse racing. Well-known also for his talent as a bargain hunter and salesman, he often operated his own popular booth at local flea markets.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Lorena Partin Peace; children, Eloise Rust of Dover, Wayne Peace (Edith) of Wilmington, Zella Breeding (Rodger) of Dunn, NC, and Stanley Peace of Wilmington; brother, Elmer Peace of Kentucky; sister, Arlone McKinney (Lawrence) of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Vester Peace and Ester Peace, a daughter, Audrey Powell, and grandchildren, Rodger Breeding, Jr. and Kirsten Peace.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 15th, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
