Died: 2/1/2013

Mrs. Christine C. Drake, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013.
Born in West Grove, PA on July 27, 1926, Mrs. Drake was the daughter of the late Wayne S. Cox and Maude Noble Cox. She was raised in Kennett Square, PA, where she graduated from the Unionville Consolidated School. She earned her secretarial degree from Goldey-Beacom College and began her career with the DuPont Company. After raising her family, she returned to professional secretarial work and was employed with several local companies until her retirement.
Mrs. Drake had a lifelong love of music and sang in many church choirs, including Limestone Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member for many years. She also sang in the DuPont chorus and performed in many musicals at Longwood Gardens. A gifted violinist, she greatly enjoyed teaching her granddaughter to play.
Throughout most of her adult life, Mrs. Drake was a member of the Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Millcreek Century Club, and the Newark Century Club, where she held the office of president and chaired many committees over the years. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of her art and bridge groups at the Newark Century Club. She volunteered extensively with many organizations, including the Blood Bank of Delaware, Emily P. Bissell Hospital, and the Girls Scouts as Brownie leader, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and delighted in socializing with her many friends and neighbors.
An avid Phillies fan, Mrs. Drake loved to watch baseball with her husband and family. With her husband, she especially enjoyed playing golf at both local clubs and on golf vacations at beautiful courses around the country.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, W. Malcolm Drake, son, David A. Drake, brother, Walter Cox, and sister, Margaret Cox. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly A. Drake of Wilmington and Linda C. Drake and husband Damian of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Kristen, Evan, and Lauren; and great granddaughter, Kaia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 9th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the New Century Club, E. Delaware Ave. & Haines Street, Newark, DE 19711; or to Limestone Presbyterian Church, 3201 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
