Clara E. (Schick) Lawrence, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany on November 6, 1929, Clara was a daughter of the late Otto and Martha (Töpel) Schick. She worked as a customer service representative for Wilmington Trust, retiring after 16 years of dedicated employment.

A woman of strong faith, Clara was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Evangelical Church in Newark, where she assisted with printing the church bulletin. She was a gifted seamstress who gave of her time and talents by offering her skills at both St. Paul’s and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Above all else, Clara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul W. Lawrence. Clara is survived by her sons, James A. Lawrence (Patricia) and Stephen P. Lawrence (Diane), all of Bear; sister, Sigrid Russell of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Jamie V. Oakjones (Timothy) of Galena, MD, Jennifer E. McCann (Stephen) of Bear, Paul W. Lawrence II of Middletown, and Mark S. Lawrence (Emmalee) of Wilmington; and great grandchildren, T.J. and Nina Oakjones.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday morning, October 16, 2017, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clara’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19713 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.

  • We are so sorry to hear of Clara’s passing. She was a wonderful lady who always had time to say hello and talk a bit. Clara was one of the very first to welcome us to Brookside 50 some years ago.
