Clarence “JR” Culler, Jr.

March 30, 1943 – October 6, 2016

Clarence F. Culler, Jr., fondly known as JR, age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Born in Mt. Airy, NC on March 30, 1943, he was a son of the late Clarence  F. and Hazel (Allen) Culler. After working for the former Motor Wheel Corporation in Newark for many years, JR opened his own businesses, Newark Lawn and then JR’s Concrete.

Since 1986, JR loved to race micro midget race cars at Airport Speedway in New Castle. In 1999 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and continued to race until his retirement in 2006. JR enjoyed vacationing with his companion of 8 years, Janet Laznik. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally J. Culler. He is survived by his daughter, Rene Decker and her husband, George, of  Port Deposit, MD; son, Brian Culler and his wife, Andrea, of Newark, DE; brothers,  Roger Culler and his wife, Anita, of Hudson, FL, and Gary Culler and his wife Jan, of Tampa, FL; sisters, Sylvia Martin and her husband, Bernie, of Hudson, FL, Norma Longstaffe and her husband, Peter, of Hudson, FL, and Wanda Bowlsbey of Hudson, FL; grandchildren, Joshua Culler, Jordan Culler, Cameron Decker, and Rielly Decker; great grandchild, Zayden Culler; companion, Janet Laznik; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am  on Friday morning, October 21, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, followed by a memorial service at 11 am.  Interment will be held at a later date in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

    Jr was a wonderful all around good man. I met Jr thru all the work he did with the Christina School District.
    Jr helped me and my kids by giving me some side jobs to do to earn extra money.
