Clarence Mac McGhee, age 86, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 3, 2016.

Born in Twin Oaks, PA on July 25, 1929, Mac was the son of the late Millard C. McGhee and Mary E. (Dwyer) Wilkins. He grew up in Claymont, DE and graduated from Claymont High School class of 1947. Mac enjoyed lunches with his Claymont classmates as part of the ROMEO club. He proudly served his country as a member of the Merchant Marines serving on the Liberty Ships. Mac began his career at the Delaware City Refinery when it first opened as Tidewater and retired after 30 years. He continued to work part-time for Doctor’s Bookkeeping and X-Ray Associates.

Mac was a member of many different antique car clubs and enjoyed traveling in search of cars and parts, also attending shows and cruises. He restored, bought and sold antique and classic cars. His specialty was Model T’s and T Birds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Millard and a grandson, Jason. Mr. McGhee is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann (Pingley); children, Dale, Jim (Deb), Barbara Gillespie (John), Cindy Langshaw (Rick) and Steve McGhee (Debbie); sisters, Ann Russo and Esther Olson; brothers, AD and JD McGhee: grandchildren, Eric, Brendan, Dawn, Cheryl, Katie, and Patrick; and 3 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware City Fire Company, P.O. Box 251, Delaware City, DE 19706.
