Clark T. “Dick” Gardiner II

Mr. Clark T. Dick Gardiner II, age 67, of New Castle, DE, died suddenly on Monday, October 11, 2010.


A native Delawarean, Mr. Gardiner was born in Delaware City on December 9, 1942, son of the late Clark T. Dick Gardiner I and Bessie Brown Gardiner. He was a graduate of Newark High School and would go on to serve his country proudly in the US Air Force for four years. Skilled in working on cars and trucks of all types throughout his life, he made his career as a diesel mechanic with Anchor Motor Freight and later Staplefords in St. Georges. He was a lifetime member of the New Castle Moose Lodge.


In his leisure hours, Mr. Gardiner looked forward to spending time with his beloved grandchildren, showing his classic car at auto shows, and fishing.


He is survived by his children, Clark T. Gardiner III (Patty) of Wilmington, Carin A. Neff of Wilmington, and Gail Ashe (Greg) of Hockessin; best friend, Patricia Gardiner; grandchildren, Heather and Scott Emig and C.J., Nick, and Alex Ashe; and his extended family at Staplefords.


Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, October 15, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
