Clifford J. Dooling Jr. - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Clifford J. Dooling Jr.

Clifford J. Butch Dooling, Jr., age 61, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2014 at his residence in New Castle, surrounded by his loving family.

Cliff was born in Riverside, NJ the son of the late Clifford J. Dooling, Sr. and Mary Riddle Dooling on August 31, 1952.

Cliff was a member of Word of Life Christian Center in Newark where he was a faithful and dedicated servant. Cliff along with his friend Denver, took joy in performing maintenance duties, cleaning, painting, preparing the church for special events, or whatever was needed to keep the church running smoothly.

Cliff spent countless hours searching for and learning Native American customs, particularly Cherokee, as it was his heritage. His room was like a museum filled with Native American artifacts that he collected over the years. He loved working with his hands and had an amazing skill in wood working. He was always involved in doing a project around the house and was very talented in remodeling and refinishing old furniture. He had a gift for finding creative and practical uses of space. Cliff always took pride in all of his work and wouldn’t settle for anything less than 100%.

His biggest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially sharing stories with his grandchildren, and he was so proud of all of them. He loved to barbeque and was fondly named the Grill Meister. NO ONE was allowed to touch his grill. His greatest gift was his big heart, full of love and help. His hand was always extended to help any person in need or any stray animal.

Cliff was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Sr., mother, Mary, sister, Bonnie Preston, and brother James Clifford Dooling.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 34 years (and childhood sweetheart), Kathy Sue Carter Dooling; son, Wayne Driver (Heather); daughters, Nicole Miller, Crystal Day (Rodney), and Kimberly Yilmaz; brother, John Michael Dooling (Cheryl); grandchildren, Ceaja Miller, Cara Stecher, Elijah Miller, Aliejah Miller, MakaLyn Day, Stafie Yilmaz and Gabrielle Driver; great granddaughter, Aniah Miller; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jack.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Friday morning, September 5, 2014 at the Word of Life Christian Center, 854 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702, where family and friends may visit after 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Road, Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713 or to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care Foundation, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.

The Dooling family would like to send a special thanks to Denver Fernando for his help and support in caring for Cliff during his illness. Also to the Compassionate Care Hospice team for all the encouragement and help in easing our stress during this difficult time.
