David A. Drake
Mr. David A. Drake, age 59, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011.
Born in West Chester, PA, on June 19, 1951, Mr. Drake was a 1969 graduate of Thomas McKean High School in Wilmington. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War stationed aboard the USS Pensacola. In civilian life, he made his career in professional automobile sales, working for various dealerships in the New Castle County area. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and, in his youth, was active in both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Drake played Little League baseball as a boy and was a lifelong fan of the Phillies, the Eagles, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed playing golf. Well known for his expertise in all types of cars and automotive history, he was particularly interested in and knowledgeable about Chevrolets. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his beloved family.
He was preceded in death by his father, W. Malcolm Drake. He is survived by his mother, Christine C. Drake of Wilmington; sisters, Beverly A. Drake of Wilmington, and Linda C. Drake and husband, Damian, of Herndon, VA; nieces and nephew, Kristen Drake, Evan Drake, and Lauren Drake, all of Herndon, VA; and cousin, Robert Drake and his family of Newark.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, April 2nd, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be held privately.
