David Arnold

Born February 17, 1927

David Arnold, known fondly as Dave, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 25, 2015.

Dave was born in Clifton, NJ on February 17, 1927, the son of the late Albert Arnold and Mabel (Graf) Arnold and was raised and attended school in Paterson, NJ. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during both WWII and Korea. Dave met the love of his life, Myrtle Sanders and the couple was married on April 15, 1950. He began his career with the New York Telephone Company and would later accept a position with the Howe Richardson Scale Company, where he worked as an industrial engineer. Dave traveled the world with the company and eventually retired in 1992, after 30 years of dedicated employment.

He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Newark, where he served as a trustee and was a member of the choir. Dave loved music of all kinds, and had a beautiful singing voice. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, model railroading and baking delicious pies and cookies for his loved ones. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Nicely and Catherine Cook. Left to grieve are his beloved wife of 65 years, Myrtle E. (Sanders) Arnold; daughter, Lynn E. Arnold of Wilmington, DE; son, David A. Arnold (Cindy) of Newark, DE; sisters, Ann Browne of Sebastian, FL and Alberta Kuipers of North Carolina; grandchildren, Chuck D. Arnold (Katie), David T. Arnold and Julie Anne Arnold; and great granddaughter, Alexandra Arnold.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday afternoon, October 30, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713 or to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Second Floor, Newark, DE 19711.
