David G. Payton, Sr., age 80, of New Castle, DE passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014.

Born in New Castle, Delaware on May 3, 1933, David was the son of the late Joseph F. Payton and Mary A. McKinley Payton. He honorably served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. David made his career with the former Gates Engineering firm where he worked at the company’s New Castle and Wilmington sites as a neoprene applicator. He would later retire after many years of dedicated employment.

He was an honorary member of the Goodwill Fire Company and a lifetime member of the NRA. David will be remembered as a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary M. Evans Payton; children, David G. Payton, Jr. of New Castle, Mary Ada Payton-Squires (Donald) of New Castle, and Teri Sickle of Wilmington; sister, Mary Ann McGrath of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Michael Payton, Matthew Squires, Ada Marie Squires and Nicholas Squires; and great grandchildren, Riley Slater, Michael I. Payton and Hunter D. Payton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, April 25, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where family and friends may visit from 10:30 am until 11 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Goodwill Fire Company, 401 South Street, New Castle, DE 19720.
