David H. Chiappa
Born September 11, 1948
David H. Chiappa, age 65, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014.
Born in Amsterdam, New York on September 11, 1948, David was the son of the late C. Christopher and Marietta Chiappa. He received his BS and MBA degrees from Syracuse University and retired after a 37 year career with the DuPont Company.
As a lifelong athlete and avid sports fan, David loved baseball and golf. He was a longtime member of the Wilmington Blue Rocks Booster Club, while supporting and following several players during their careers. David enjoyed following the University of Delaware basketball teams, as well as the Syracuse University and Phillies teams. He also enjoyed golfing with his longtime friends and was a past member of the DuPont Country Club.
David is survived by his wife, Kristen Perry Chiappa of Newark. He was a devoted father to his children, Janine Chiappa McKenna (Ted), Benjamin Chiappa (Michele) and Ian Chiappa and to his step-daughters, Ashley Miller and Joanna Rivera. David is also survived by his sister, Chrys Chiappa Dudbridge and three grandchildren, Clementine, Leah and Colin.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Monday afternoon, May 26, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where family and friends may visit from 1 pm until 2 pm.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the collective support given to them during David’s journey through Frontotemporal Degeneration by their extended family members, friends, neighbors, caregivers and health care and professional service providers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of David to the Penn FTD Center, Attention Christine Ray, 3 West Gates, 3400 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

My deepest condolences for the family of Dave Chiappa. I worked with Dave in Sourcing at DuPont for many years, and have fond memories of him as a warm and caring friend. He was always willing to teach others and share what he knew, and to help others be successful. He was taken much too young, and will be missed by his former work colleagues, as well as his family and friends.

I met Dave when he came as a patient to my dental practice. Though the years Dave became a friend. I looked forward his visits and much of it was spent talking sports. I always looked forward to those visits. He could equally enjoy a Phillies,a Blue Rock, his adult league softball as well as a little league game. I remember when he came out to an all-star baseball game to watch my son play when he was in little league. That meant a lot to me. I only had mentioned the day before about the game and he surprised me by being there to cheer him on. With only some much time to talk sports and actually get the scheduled procedure finished, he still managed to find the time to talk about how proud he was of his children and family. My staff and I are very sad and we miss him very much. I lost a friend.
