David Hugh Smith
Born April 11, 1944
David Hugh Smith, age 69, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
Born in Joppa, MD on April 11, 1944, David was a son of the late Henry M. Smith and Mary Jean Stanley Smith. Upon completion of college, David made his career as an entrepreneur and as a career aviator with the Delaware Army National Guard, retiring at the rank of CW4.
He volunteered his time and talents at the St. Georges Historical Society. David was an aviation and dendrology enthusiast. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bird watching and was a talented woodworker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sibilings, H. James Smith, Dorothy Robin, and Linda Cramer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia Halter Smith; sons, D. Bryan Smith and wife Claudia of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew P. Smith and wife Sarah of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and James A. Smith and wife Christina of Creve Coeur, MO; brothers, Paul Smith of Mt. Airy, MD, Michael Smith of Wilmington, DE and Timothy Smith of Wilmington, DE; and 9 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the St. Georges Historical Society, 200 N. Main Street, St. Georges, DE, where friends may call from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Smiles for Sophie Forever, 31722 Leeward Ct., Avon Lake, OH 44012 (smilesforsophieforever.org).
