David Joseph Brobst, Sr.

Born August 17, 1949

David Joseph Brobst, Sr., age 66, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Friday, October 2, 2015.

Born in Pottsville, PA on August 17, 1949, David was a son of the late Fritz Brobst and Dolores (Gilgore) Brobst. He made his career as a receiving and shipping manager at several Delaware-based Acme stores, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service.

David was a longtime member of New Castle Moose Lodge #1578 and VFW Post #475, Newark. In his leisure time, he was an avid pool and darts player and looked forward to cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles each season. He was a talented carpenter and woodworker who enjoyed creating hand-crafted furniture. Above all else, David was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who adored spending time with his loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Janet P. (Robinson) Brobst; children, Wendi R. Bader (John) of Elkton, MD, David J. Brobst, Jr. (Trisha) of Newark and M. Eric Brobst (Ann) of Townsend; siblings, Stephen Brobst of Claymont, Gary Brobst of Wilmington, Billy Brobst of PA and Barbara Starinsky of Pottsville, PA; grandchildren, Lindsay and Elise Bader, Nicholas Godwin and Trevor, Breanna and Courtney Brobst; and great granddaughter, Emeline Zebley.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, October 9, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in David’s memory may be made to Companimals Pet Rescue, 1499 Flint Hill Rd., Landenberg, PA 19350.
