Deborah A. Caldwell, age 64, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2016, surrounded by her family.

Born in Circleville, OH on May 6, 1952, Deborah was a daughter of Robert A. and Joyce Arlene (Leist) Minshall. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from DelTech and would later accept a position with Community Systems of New Castle where she dedicated 26 years of service. Deborah’s work as a program manager allowed her to assist those with disabilities reach their full potential, which was her life’s passion.

In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping trips around town. Deborah had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. Above all else, she loved her family and friends and was happiest spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored.

Deborah was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jordan Leigh Wingo. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 28 years, David Ayers; children, Dale Wingo (Kim) of Bear, DE, Stephanie Wingo (Rob) of Dover, DE and Brian Caldwell (Tanya) of Bear, DE; step children, Tanya Bivens (Eric) and Sammy Ayers, all of Elkton, MD; sister, Sandra Weed of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Kyle, Erin, Amber, Nikki, Josh, Sarah and Sabrina; great grandchildren, Jazmine and Katarina; and nephew, Garrett Hadley.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday morning, June 2, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Deborah’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) 455 Stanton-Christiana Road Newark, DE 19713.

  • Cousin Arlene, so sorry to hear of your loss. I know what it is like to loose a daughter. I pray your heart ache gradually gets better….it will never go away…but it does fade some. It,s been 11years since my Beack passed on…and I still think of her everyday …in the flowers, animals ,stars, clouds….you name it. Thank God we have all those memories to keep us going….prayers to you!!

  • To the family… I will miss long time childhood friend from Circleville and my FB Friend … I so appreciated Arlene letting me know… Debbie and I connected several years ago at the Pumpkin Show and then again on FB… We would occasionally private message each other…Debbie and I both have sisters named Sandy…I found peace when my little Yorkie was put to sleep, via Debbie’s kind words to me… Debbie’s memory will live on in my heart… RIP, my earliest memory of a childhood friend and the sting of your friend moving away…
