Dennis M. Gronka, age 64, of Norfolk, VA and formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015.

Born in Lewistown, PA on March 13, 1951, Dennis was a son of Martin J. and Dorothy E. (Snyder) Gronka. He made his career as an electrical engineer in the shipbuilding industry for a number of years; most recently, he was Sr. Design Specialist/ Processes & Procedures at QED Systems. Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

A true patriot, he had a keen interest in politics, was an active member of the Norfolk Republican Party, and served as Chair of the Norfolk Tea Party. In 2014, Dennis successfully championed the fight for an Elected School Board for the City of Norfolk. Norfolk Citizens for an Elected School Board urged area residents to become more involved in the educational process. Dennis was a man of strong Christian faith. In his leisure time, he enjoyed sailing and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dennis is survived by his children, Devon M. Gronka of Norfolk, VA and Taylor B. Gronka of Durham, NC; siblings, Linda married to Mel Anderson of Richmond, VA, M. Steven and Michael J. Gronka, both of Newark.

A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 2 pm on Friday afternoon, December 4, 2015 in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE with interment to follow. Afterward, there will be a memorial luncheon at Aqua Sol, 3006 Summit Harbor Place, Bear, DE. In VA, a Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2015 at the Kempsville Presbyterian Church, 805 Kempsville Road, VA Beach. A reception will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Attn: Development, 875 N. Randolph St., Ste 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
