Dolores M. (Klapinsky) Potochney

Born July 30, 1929

Dolores M. Potochney, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully with family present on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at home.

Dolores was born in Stockton, PA on July 30, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Walter Klapinsky and Agnes Shroba Klapinsky. Dolores was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish in Newark where she was a member of the Altar Society and Leisure Group. In her younger years, she served as a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader. She was a sports enthusiast who supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in dance, baseball, volleyball, soccer, football, and basketball. She enjoyed camping, needlecraft, gardening and travel with her beloved husband, Joe and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rita Palko. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph; brother Walter Klapinsky (Marie) of Newark; children, Joseph (Elizabeth) of Newark, Dolores Dee Mitchell (Patrick) of Wesley Chapel, FL, Robert (Natalie) of Thonotosassa, FL, Michael (Paula) of Newark, and Steven (Kim) of Norwalk, CT; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Delaware Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Dolores during her illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am on Thursday morning, August 14, 2014 at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where a viewing for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.

  • Our deepest sympathies. We will always remember the fun times we all had: camping, Girl Scout events, shopping at the Dry Goods, and visiting back and forth. She was my first babysitter back in Freeland. Dolores will be missed by all of us.
