Donald C. “Don” Aukamp

Donald C. Aukamp, age 85, of New Castle, Delaware passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Born on August 19, 1929 in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Robert D. Aukamp and Evelyn (Binder) Aukamp.

Don proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

In his early twenties, Don met the love of his life, the former Nancy E. Herb.  Together they were blessed with more than sixty-two years of marriage, three children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Family meant everything to Don and he loved each and every one of them dearly.  He will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Don retired in 1980 as an inspector with Chrysler following thirty years of dedicated service.  During those years, he shared his strong work ethic with many and made numerous lifelong friends.

He was a life member of the Delaware State Pistol Club, a member of the Joseph B. Stahl American Legion Post #30 and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Don enjoyed various interests throughout his life, but his family will always recall his passion as an avid NASCAR fan and air show enthusiast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katy.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy E.  Aukamp; three children, Donna Harding of Newark, David Aukamp of New Castle and Jack Aukamp and his wife, Arleen of New Castle; five grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Angela, Robert and Timothy; two great-grandsons, Bryon and Jacob.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, September 10, 2014 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may visit with Don’s family from 5:30 “ 7:00 pm.  Interment will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday morning, September 11, 2014 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the VFW National Headquarters, 406 West 34th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.

    I’m so sorry to learn of your father’s death. It’s never easy to lose a parent. From reading the obituary and your comments above, it sounds as though your dad was a loving family man. I see that your inspiration to become a photographer was due in part to your dad’s own interest in photography. What an incredible gift!
