Donald J. Elliott, Sr.
Mr. Donald J. Elliott, Sr., age 77, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at his home.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Elliott was born in Wilmington on April 5, 1934, son of the late Earl Elliott and Roseadel Haines Elliott. He was employed with Star Building Services for many years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor.
Mr. Elliott was interested in sports throughout his life and particularly enjoyed cheering for his favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. A talented bowler, he competed in league play for many years.
Well known for his wonderful sense of humor, Mr. Elliott delighted in joking with others and exchanging funny stories. He also appreciated good food, especially when shared with good company.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Wilma Jenkins Elliott, four daughters, five sons, two sisters, twenty grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Friday, August 26, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will be in Kemblesville United Methodist Church Cemetery, New London Road, Kemblesville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Elliott may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
