Donald L. “Don” Strickland

Donald L. Don Strickland, age 71, of Newark, Delaware and formerly of Pennsville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2014.

Born on April 30, 1943 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William C. Strickland and Elizabeth Anna (Walker) Strickland.

Don proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Navy and later with the Delaware Seebees. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he joined the Delaware Air National Guard, retiring as Master Sergeant following 26 years of loyal service to his country.

He spent his working career as a millwright with DuPont Company, retiring after 34 years of dedicated service.

For those who were blessed to know Don, they will always recall his gift as a great craftsman. He possessed a talent for fixing and repairing everything imaginable. More importantly, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William L. Strickland and Ronald L. Strickland.

Don leaves a legacy of wonderful memories to his loving wife of nearly 49 years, JoAnn C. (Tulini) Strickland; two children, Dena L. Crump (Lee) of New Castle and Donald L. Strickland, Jr. (Emily) of Mission Viejo, CA; one sister, Barbara Pacevich and three loving grandchildren, Haylie C. Reed, Blake M. Strickland and Brooke O. Strickland.

Friends may visit with Don’s family from 6:00 “ 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2014 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Committal services with military honors will be held 10:00 am on Thursday morning, October 23, 2014 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
