Donald N. McLaren, Sr., age 79, of Delaware City, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 13, 1937, Mr. McLaren was the son of the late Norman and Anne (Patterson) McLaren. He made his career as a clerk with Pantry Pride Markets and spent 37 years serving the many customers who visited the company’s store located in the Brookside community of Newark.

A passionate sports fan, Mr. McLaren looked forward to cheering on his favorite Philadelphia teams each season. He was an avid bowler, liked playing the lottery and was known to enjoy a good political debate. Mr. McLaren was a devoted family man who adored the company of his loved ones and he will be truly missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrtle Anne (Allaband) McLaren and daughter, Debbie Miller. Mr. McLaren is survived by his son, Donald N. McLaren, Jr. (Mendy) of Bear; sister, Mary Jane Moore of Wilmington; grandchildren, John, Lauren, Roland, Alexandria, Corey, Jeremy, Michelle, Gabrielle, Sara and Henry; and great grandchildren, Roland, Jr. and J.T.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday morning, August 9, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery, Clinton Street, Delaware City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware City Fire Company, P.O. Box 251, Delaware City, DE 19706.
