Doreen Taafe-Suttell, age 67, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Liverpool, England on October 19, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Black) Taafe.  Doreen was a legal secretary for Richards, Layton & Finger in Wilmington and retired after 20 years of dedicated service.

With a passion for flower gardening, Doreen’s work was admired by family, friends and neighbors.  She also loved to cheer on her favorite soccer team in her hometown of Liverpool.  Doreen treasured her grandsons more than anything and had many wonderful memories with them.

In addition to her parents, Doreen was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  She is survived by her daughter, Alexandra Taafe Baird (James) of Tokyo, Japan; brother, William Taafe of Liverpool, England; sisters, Anne McMenamy of Adelaide, South Australia, Bernadette Morrow of Liverpool, England and Patricia Shuman of Avondale, PA; apples of her eye, her grandsons, James and Christopher Baird.

Family and friends may gather from 3 pm until 4 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 4 pm.  Interment will be held privately.

  • Oh my dear Doreen, You don’t know how much I will miss you. I always admired your gumption and sense of humor. You were a great inspiration to me and always pointed the way with your sound advice. I am so grateful that you spent the summer with me and my niece. We were just like a family together.
