Doris C. Hoeflinger

June 26, 1927 - March 9, 2018

Doris C. Hoeflinger, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Vineland, NJ on June 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Beatrice (Hedrick) Clark.  Following graduation from Vineland High School, she worked with religious organizations.  In 1968, Doris joined the College of Human Resources at the University of Delaware as an Executive Secretary to the Dean until retiring 1988.

Doris was an avid Phillies and Delaware Blue Hens football fan.  She enjoyed singing in the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Ruth Circle.  Doris was also an Elder at Green Hill Presbyterial Church and served as a past vice president of Brookside Community, Incorporated.  Above all, her proudest roles were devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Doris will be dearly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Charles Hoeflinger; daughter, Susan Lawton; and brother, Raymond Clark.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Rev. Herbert J. Hoeflinger; sons, Herbert C. Hoeflinger (Alice) and David Hoeflinger (Sharon); daughters, Cindy Arnold (David) and Wendy Furry (William); son-in-law, Bob Lawton; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren, with another expected in April.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 noon on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will be held at 12 noon.  Interment will be held privately at Green Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ name to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE, 19713.
