Doris Mary Moore

Born October 27, 1927

Doris Mary Moore, age 88, formerly of New Castle, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at her home in Viola, DE.

Doris was born in Wilmington, DE on October 27, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Eileen (Conley) Archibald. She assisted with the war effort and worked as Rosie the Riveter for the Bellanca Aircraft Corporation from 1944 until 1945. Doris later worked in food service for a number of local restaurants, including one of her favorites, Steve’s, on Centerville Road, behind the counter for Eckerd Drugs, and in the cafeteria at the DuPont Company’s Glasgow Site where she retired in 1987.

Doris enjoyed dancing with her late husband, Frank, to their favorite country music at the After 6 Lounge in Long Neck. In her leisure time, she loved visiting little antique shops, area flea markets and taking rides in the car. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and especially looked forward to hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Whether they were sharing a family meal at her favorite restaurant, PGN in Ocean City, MD, or just hanging out around the dinner table at home, she was happiest in the company of her loved ones. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother who will be very dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Frank Moore, Sr,; her grandsons, Jeffrey F. Moore and David W. Kaminski; and daughter-in-law, Cynthia A. Moore. Doris is survived by her children, William Kaminski of Wilmington, DE, Margaret Ryan (Daniel) of Garnet Valley, PA, Martha Kaminska of Slate Hill, NY, Doris Strzalka (Walter) of Viola, DE, Frank Moore, Jr. (Sharon) of Bear, DE, Kathleen Moran (Bruce) of New Castle, DE and Gary Moore of New Castle, DE; cousins, Ronald, Nancy and Donna; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Visiting Nurses of Christiana and the Bethany Group of Seasons Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Doris and to Tracy Tuxward and Jamie Clough for their loving care.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon, September 6, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

  • So very sorry for the passing of your mom. I didn’t realize that multiple friends were related to Doris. To Frank and Sharon and your family, Joe and I send our sympathies. To Diane and Louise, so very sorry for your loss. I still remember helping Frank, Sr and Doris sell their home in New Castle. I remember how Doris called me the morning of 9/11 telling me we were attacked. She thought the Communist attacked us. She was a true delight. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all during this sad time.

  • Lifting prayers for you and your family; and pray that God’s grace strengthens you as you celebrate Doris’ life.
